Get some air!

I was sitting at the computer most of the day today, studying, thinking, and getting more and more frustrated for no apparent reason. I decided to go running. I just got out of the shower after 5 miles on the trail and I have a whole new outlook. This video kind of sums it up. Inside, we are all runners!

Back on my feet!

So it’s springtime and it appears that just about everyone has got the itch to get outside and start moving. I can hardly believe its been so long since one of us posted on this site. I just started training a couple weeks ago after taking a few months off to nurse a sore knee. I went over 3 miles this morning for the first time this year, starting at a comfortable pace and then pushing myself to increase the pace each mile. For some reason, after about 40 races over the last few years, I still don’t push myself to run unless I’m training for something. We have the Ragnar Wasatch Back coming up in June and that has gotten me off my butt and back on the trail. Whatever your motivation is, set yourself up with more of it until momentum takes over. I have no doubt that I’ll run another 8 to 10 races this year because that’s what I need for motivation! I register for a race to force myself to get out on the road.I hope to pace several more races with the American Flyers Race Pacers this year. Running as a pacer has been doubly rewarding because it keeps me moving and I get to support people along the race. For me, Ragnar Wasatch Back is my next race! Whatever your Motivation is, keep it in front of you until you achieve it! And then immediately replace it with a new goal so you continually have something to strive for. Joe

Hood to Coast, let’s rock!

As I head for bed on the eve of the biggest event our team has participated in to date. 12 runners, 2 drivers, 197 miles on foot; the Hood to Coast relay! As we came together tonight 750 miles from home I realized what a amazing buch of people we are. All committed to stretching ourselves, giving of ourselves, and having a great time doing it! I’m both intimidated and excited about the task at hand. And I love this team! For those interested, we will be carrying a GPS courtesy of Scott Lemon and can be tracked at http://bit.ly/bpfcuZ with updates every 10 minutes during the race. I’ll keep updates going on our Facebook page.

Teaming up with the American Cancer Society

This year I have decided to join the American Cancer Society DetermiNation endurance event program, and I would like to ask for your help as I try to cross two finish lines instead of just one.

In the Hood To Coast relay Race, The BIcan Team participating as part of the DetermiNation endurance event program – a nation of athletes determined to end cancer. This means that all of the months, miles, and hard work I put into training for this race will be for something greater than a personal victory – it will directly help people with cancer in my community and everywhere. I know that there are a lot of great causes out there, but the DetermiNation program speaks to me because funds raised enable the American Cancer Society to save lives by helping people stay well and get well, by finding cures, and fighting back today. With your help, we can create a world with less cancer and more birthdays.

I’m truly excited to be a part of this team, and I hope you’ll support me if you can so that I can finish the race and achieve my goal of raising money for the American Cancer Society.

I know times are tough for many of us right now, so I appreciate any contribution you can offer. They say that every donation makes a difference, and it really is true. Your gift will mean so much to me, and countless other people who really need our help right now. As a little extra inspiration, I thought you might like to know a few of the ways your donation will help the American Cancer Society save lives every day.

When you make a donation …

* More people in our community can stay well by getting the information and tools they need to help prevent cancer or find it early.
* More people with cancer will have a place to turn around the clock to help them through every step of their cancer journey – whether it’s a free ride to treatment, a place to stay, or just talking to someone who has “been there.”
* More of us have will have access to lifesaving cancer screenings and treatments we need.

Each of us has our own reasons for caring about the fight against cancer. Whatever your reasons, I hope you’ll choose to make a difference by donating online to support my effort. Thanks to the generosity of people like you, 11 million cancer survivors are celebrating another birthday this year! Together we truly are saving lives and creating a world with more birthdays. I’m so grateful to have great people like you in my life who care about cancer!

Sincerely,

Joe Fulton

Wasatch back/Ragnar Relay

Hello all,

Early registration for the Wasatch Back ends today. I registered a team (#920) and am looking for runners. The first 11 people to send me $90, gets to be on the team.
Since 1/2 of the team was healthy last year and we have a lot of Bican members, the team name is “Why run? Because I can. Cancer can’t stop us!” I figured this would acknowledge Bican (non profit), the cancer connection, and being associated with two charitable causes may help with fund raising. Plus, we can put whatever we like on the shirts – Team Tumor included.
